The Wellness Edition No.71 // Language Learning Meditation

I might have mentioned it before but I kind of struggle with muting my brain when I try to mediate. Even when I am listening to a guided meditation, there is still going on a lot in my head. I enjoy listening to the guided meditations by Esther and Abraham Hicks and by Gabby Bernstein. So far those ones are my favorites but like I said, my brain won’t calm down while listening.

So I discovered a bit of a different approach to mute my brain. Whatever worked well in the past to mute my thoughts and to only focus on the current moment was ballet, I did ballet for a long time as a kid and then I started again in my 20ies when I was still in university. Well, since ballet requires a lot of concentration and body control, it always did an incredible job in muting my brain because as soon as I focused on other thoughts I could not follow my ballet class anymore. But I stopped with ballet when I moved to Spain and so far I have not made it to get back into it again. I will for sure, it is just a question of time.

Last year I installed a language learning app called language drops when I decided that I want to start learning Russian. I love this app and from all the language apps I tried this one is my favorite (I don’t get paid or sponsored by them, I only mention the app here in my blog because I truly love it).

What I realised when I started learning the Russian alphabet was that focusing on learning a new alphabet, words of a new language, was that it helps me to completely mute my brain from any other thoughts and that I can totally focus on just learning. So this pretty much has the effect of my brain not going nuts thinking about all sorts of things because my brain is so busy processing the new information that it is a very good way for me to relax and to zoom out from the real world.

I have always loved languages and I started learning different languages at an early age, I even have a professional background with languages and translations and I have been working as language trainer for a long time. Since I love traveling, languages always come in handy as well of course.

So this is basically a hobby for me to learn a bit of different languages and I think it also is a really good brain exercise to keep this muscle flexible and strong. Currently I don’t plan to become fluent in another language but I am happy to learn new words and maybe also to get back into learning another alphabet. Back when I started I stopped with Russian unfortunately because I had a stressful time with lots of work and I just did not have the energy to continue. But now since I realised that this app helps me to mute my brain and to mute my thoughts, I can always go back to it and also I decided not to work anymore with people who stress me out and drain my energy.
