The Wellness Edition No.78 // Blog Therapy

I think blogging can be considered as quite therapeutic in case you decide to write about things / situations / issues that make you process certain emotions, rethink and reevaluate certain situations and in general that you have the opportunity to reflect.

Especially now in the current times, that aren’t easy for most people, blogging can be a big help for maybe setting new goals and staying accountable to them because of writing them down in the blog and maybe documenting your progress - or also it helps to deal with the feelings of uncertainty and anxiety that are consequences of how life has changed with the pandemic, lockdowns, social distancing.

I can totally relate to this as well since I can clearly feel the effect that the current situation has on my wellbeing. Anxiety, fear and panic have to returned to a level I had not experienced before and I know that this is due to the current circumstances because before this was not an issue and I was actually pretty happy and satisfied with my life and lifestyle - but since this whole Corona drama has been going on over one year by now, I can feel how it effects me as well.

And I know that I am not the only one feeling that way. People who struggle with mental issues anyways have their symptoms coming back and even people who did not have anxiety disorders or depression before now suffer from it. I heard this now from several therapists that they have so many patients inquiring that they cannot even accept them all and that anxiety disorders drastically went up among young people especially.

I am not a therapist but I had been in therapy for at least a decade and I can say for myself that blogging helps me to reflect on what is actually going on, what triggers me and through writing I get a better access to my feelings and that in consequence helps me to ask myself the right questions and to reflect on my current emotional and physical wellbeing.

So I thought to make this a blog post today, if it works for me I am pretty sure that this might be a thing that will also serve other people. It does not even have to be blogging, I think writing in general is therapeutic. Same goes for art, I think getting creative really does the trick to help a nervous soul to calm down. I assume that pretty much everything that gets our creative juices flowing, can have a therapeutic and calming effect and therefore be beneficial to help us calm down, relax and get distracted through creating something beautiful.

So if you ever thought about starting a new hobby, a blog, a podcast, learning a new skill - then I think it is the best time and to go for it. Also it helps to put the focus back on you and not to get distracted by all the bad news all the time which in consequence of course only leads to more panic and sadness.

Love,

Phyllis
