Winter Solstice // the days are getting longer again
I am so happy it is finally the day…from now on days are getting longer again and the darkest days will be over from now on. Every year i am super happy whenever 21 December comes because then I know that more light will be here soon. I really suffer from the dark and cold days so winter solstice is my turning point where I know that it is getting better and that Spring is on it’s way.
January and February are always still tough months because that’s when it is usually really cold and the Christmas decoration is gone then, which at least with all the lights and greenery makes dark November and December a whole lot friendlier. Bringing greenery into your homes goes back to Pagan traditions and whenever Europe was christianised it was a ritual that was kept. I don’t know where the lights come from but I imagine that light plays a major role in most religions so I could imagine that this is also rooted in Pagan traditions.
I made this graphic for the winter solstice but with the illustration a little bit of the Christmas spirit is included as well I’d say. I decided to keep it black and white with a black background because now the dark is actually going into the background since light and longer days will follow from now on.
