The myth of passive income

The myth of passive income

Let’s do some real talk here: The myth of passive income has been promoted in the online-business world for a very long time targeting young wannabe entrepreneurs looking for the quick solution to earning tons of money online.

I have to confess, I totally fell for it as well. You might ask why? Because I am also just a human being and just like the rest of us, I have been looking for a way of earning money online since I heard all the time '“how easy” it was.

Let’s talk about the problems that most of us are facing: we live in economically challenging times, there is inflation everywhere, available jobs are often a real pain in the ass….and so on. So, of course many of us want to find a way to escape the madness of this rat-race.

And here is a solution that gets presented all over the online world: and that solution is “passive income”! But now my question is; does something like a truly passive income really exist? I’d say, no…you always have to put lots of work in before an income gets truly '“passive”. You could argue and say that making money from stocks or renting out property is truly passive, but it takes such a long time to get to this point and requires lots of hard work before and smart investments before an income can truly get passive.

In the past I thought selling digital products (and monetizing my love for art and design) was the best thing on earth since sliced cake but I now did that and have to say, it is not for me, I did not have fun and in the process of creating art and design all the time, I had put so much pressure on myself that I almost lost my love for making art. So hell no, digital products were not the answer to my desire of '“passive income”.

Maybe you should begin with asking yourself why you are so keen on making a passive income? If you had asked me in the past, I would have responded: salaries are low, many jobs are a pain in the ass and the dream of making money while I sleep just sounds amazeballs.

If you asked me now, my thoughts have changed tremendously since I think now that passive income is just a marketing scam and internet online-business myth and I think there is a better solution out there which is to start a service-based business and to only work with good clients (who are not a pain in the ass to work with). That means setting up a qualifying process in order to filter out nightmare clients (yes, I had them in the past) and to only work with the best clients who have to apply to work with you.

What are your thoughts about the so-called passive income? Feel free to share your thoughts with me.
