Hangxiety

If you are a sensitive person like I am, chances are high that you get the so-called hangxiety after consuming alcohol. I love drinking wine and cocktails, but if I overdo it or do it too often, it gives me jitters. The next morning I feel totally out of balance, I feel nervous and anxious.

This is not a big surprise because when drinking alcohol, estrogen goes up in our body and even though estrogen is hyped as the ‘female health homrone’ too much of it, has bad side effects. According to biologist Ray Peat there is a big correlation between estrogen and cancers, estrogen and autoimmune disease, estrogen and anxiety and so on.

I am not an expert on hormonal health or health in general here, I am just writing what I have read through researching. So, my goal is to get rid off anxiety, fear and panic-attacks and therefore I step back from drinking alcohol. I am not saying that I am not going to touch alcohol anymore at all, but it will be very moderate - that moderate that it won’t give me the jitters and anxiety the next day.

Also I noticed that I crave wine after a day of under-eating so cravings for alcoholic beverages are actually sugar cravings. If you fuel your body with enough calories, nourishing food, all the important macros then chances are high, that you won’t even think about wanting a glass of wine (or more) in the evening. At least that is my experiences. So you gotta make sure to eat enough during the day and then a glass of wine won’t even come into your mind in the evening.

The other downside is that we feel having a few drinks in the evening helps us to calm down and to unwind, it might be the case at that time, but unfortunately another consequence is unrestful sleep and in the worst case suffering from hangxiety the next morning.

Oh, and when suffering from hangxiety the next morning, I can’t be productive in the morning which is a real punishment for being a morning person. Haha, my new favorite evening drink now is milk with cocoa powder, honey and casein powder - now in Summer I drink it cold and in the colder season I will drink it as hot chocolate. This is the perfect before bed drink or as we Germans call it, the perfect ‘Betthupferl’. Casein is a protein that digests slowly (or has a slow release into the system, something like that) and is famous for giving you a restful night. Well, I also drink it in my morning milkshake, it is also supposed to be good for tooth health . I just started consuming it, so I cannot really say much about the effects of it yet but I might write another post about it soon.

So my dear friend, let’s limit our hangxiety days for a happier and better wellbeing.

Love,

Phyllis
