Recovered Perfectionist

Perfectionism is leading no where, right? Actually it is pure self-sabotage. Before doing something not perfect, we better don’t do it at all! I am breaking up with perfectionism! And I suspect that perfectionism and anxiety are also strongly co-related. Because not doing something perfect (because we have not the skill set yet or whatever) results in anxiety for the perfectionist.

Perfectionist results in procrastination. Instead of not fulfilling the own super high (and unachievable expectations) we better don’t even get started. Needless to say that this is just opening the box of pandora to Burnout Ville.

So I told myself from now on I will blog on a regular basis again, but without creating graphics and illustrations that take me hours. I will keep it minimal and simple instead! Not getting anything done at all leaves me with the worst feeling. Same goes for the shop. Working on it slow and steady without feeling the overwhelm of getting everything done ‘perfect’. Because let’s be honest, there is no ‘perfect’ ever. Waiting for ‘perfect’ is like WAITING FOR GODOT.

I am sure that taking out the pressure of perfectionism will lead to much better results, feeling happier and more balanced and also in reducing anxiety and overwhelm. I also suspect that perfectionism and people-pleasing are strongly related and people-pleasing is another very self-destructive habit to let go of, because being a people-pleaser you can only lose. And that is absolutely no bueno!

I realised I feel much better as long as I do just anything that gives me a rewarding feeling then. Let it be blogging, designing, drawing, working on shop products. Just anything that helps me keep my goals in mind and helps me to reflect on my thoughts and ideas and to clarify them (ha, just like good old delicious Ghee). And writing should also be part of a new routine again because I thrive on that.

Probably millions of people lose sight of what they actually want because of being perfectionism - don’t be one of them. Because it’s a waste of time and and letting go of precious talents and ideas. Again, no bueno!

This is one to all the recovered perfectionists. Let’s unite and get the things done that matter to us - even when they are not perfect in the end!
